Fairview is a wonderfully private, cozy place to call home. Once a rural farming area, it is now a perfect balance of residential streets and untouched nature. Those new to the area might begin exploring the diverse local landscapes with a trip along the Blue Ridge Parkway. One of the country’s most treasured scenic drives, the Parkway runs through almost 470 miles of farmlands, mountains and meadows. Just a partial trip along the Parkway reveals wildlife, lush greenery, distant mountain peaks and bright, seasonal flowers.

Just 13 miles southeast of Fairview lies another beloved natural resource, the 1,000-acre Chimney Rock Park. Visitors come to Chimney Rock to walk its trails, to experience its panoramic views, to climb its granite outcroppings and to sit in the mists of its waterfalls. The park is best known for a rocky ridge called the Chimney. The Chimney sits 315 feet in the air — a trek to its peak is rewarded with seemingly endless views of lush valleys and hillsides. Other scenic viewpoints in the park include Hickory Nut Falls, the Opera Box, Peregrine’s Rest and Devil’s Head.
Fairview enjoys an accessible location in Buncombe County. U.S. Route 74 links the community to Interstates 40, 240 and 26. These major roadways in turn connect Fairview to most of North and South Carolina. Regional air travel is available at the Asheville Regional Airport, just 15 minutes from Fairview. Airlines operating out of Asheville include Continental, Delta, Northwest and US Airways.

The climate of Fairview is what you’d expect from a mountain community in the Carolinas. Summers are mild in temperature and tolerably humid. Winter temperatures dip from the summer highs in the 80 down to lows in the 20s. Average annual rainfall, about 50 inches, is a little above the U.S. average, but this doesn’t keep Fairview locals from enjoying 215 days of sunshine each year.
